HISTORY
Sora is very clearly a little girl and always has been. However, he had the dubious fortune of having his growth halted, in his words: "Before that kind of thing really matters." So after about a century of being a little girl he decided to try being a little boy for a century or so. Despite asking others to change how they refer to him, though, he did very little to change himself. He still wears his hair quite long ("it'd be such a shame to cut it") and is almost always wearing dresses or other feminine clothing ("I just enjoy being dressed up is all").
Since he himself is much too young to be caught up in any romances, he is often quite nosy about others' private lives. He just loves a good juicy scandal or love triangle. Since his nosiness was legendary by the time he graduated, he was quickly snatched up by the local newspaper to run a gossip column. They assumed someone as intrusive as Sora would be a natural choice. Alas, that job only lasted about a month. Turns out, despite loving gossip, Sora was actually quite dim when it came to sniffing out scandal. He would often laugh off actual gossip as being a joke, and always seemed to be the very last person to realize what was going on in any given situation. He would credulously buy even the most cliche and half-hearted explanations with a childlike, innocent trusting.
After being kicked out of the gossip department, he found his new (and since then permanent) home running a column on the supernatural. Every week he would post stories of the paranormal or conspiracy theories he had rooted out during the week. Thanks to his naive credulity the column has become a bizarre catch-all for the most outlandish claims and stories. Of course almost no one in town believes any of the things he writes, but his wide-eyed, innocent take on the 'unseen world' has become quite popular. Enough so that Sora even managed to recently publish a book collecting some of his most popular columns which has been selling decently well.
